Bible Of Assisted Vacuum Delivery

By on 0

Parenthood is the most amazing phase of any parents’ life. But the expectant mothers remain very confused regarding various phenomenon and concepts. The term “assisted birth” is also such a term which creates confusion among the ladies and they wonder what it is. At many times people get start to worry hearing this term and thus get the scenario more problematic.

What is vacuum cup baby delivery or assisted delivery?

Vacuum cup baby delivery or assisted delivery is nothing but all this term means that your baby needs some more help and care during delivery. During the labour stage two common methods are used to deliver a baby. The two common methods are forceps and vacuum extraction or ventouse. A suction cup like instrument known as vacuum or ventouse is used for the delivery. It is attached to the baby’s head with the help of suction and thus the baby is moved down the birth canal. But it is used after the mother get tired pushing for a long time. Again if the baby is nearly out but his heart rate is low or not reassuring. The assisted delivery’s success totally depends upon doctor. Otherwise the assisted delivery transforms into c-section.

How the process works?

The doctor at first consults with the mother if the assisted delivery is required. On the delivery day at first the doctor or midwife will give the expectant an anaesthesia.  And then the method of assisted delivery is done. The suction cup is released and removed when the baby’s head appears. If this method doesn’t work then the expectant will be given a caesarean section.

Reasons for assisted birth delivery-

The assisted birth delivery is adopted by the doctors for the delivery when some situations need it, like,

  1. After dilation process the mother is pushing for long time and get exhausted.
  2. Baby is having some problem and showing distress.
  3. Mother has any medical problem and thus pushing is risky for her.
  4. Baby’s head position is not in optimum position.

Risks or birth effects of vacuum assisted delivery

It is seen in medical history that those babies delivered with the ventouse method or vacuum assisted delivery develops a swelling or bump in their head. This causes due to the suction cup is used during delivery. But this bump disappears after the birth within some hours. Bleeding within the scalp, risk of infection in mother, damage of vagina and cervix ad pelvic joint pain are some of the risks that may happen.

There are also some risks which tend to occur in the form of vaginal tearing. After the course of delivery you may face some difficulty in urinating or emptying your bladder. These are complications which tend to occur with a vaginal birth, but it is all the more in case of vacuum extraction. If you suffer any tearing there occurs a chance of excess bleeding at the same time.

You would need to explore all the possibilities before hand with your doctor who can guide you better.
